Successful Lynx Relocation The lynx is a large, slender cat of the family Felidae. It is native to North America, Europe, and Asia. The species is widely distributed across its range and considered common in many areas, although population declines have been noted in some regions. Lynx populations are stable in Europe, but North America's lynx population has been in decline for more than a century. In 2000, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service listed the lynx as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. At that time, there were estimated to be no more than 3,000 animals left in the wild in the lower 48 states.
